“Yoked” Print
This is a detailed print of my original painting, "Yoked".
During my nightly scripture study, I stumbled across a scripture I had always struggled with:
Matthew 11:29: “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
Each time my eyes landed on this scripture, I found myself puzzled despite my honest efforts to interpret the sacred text.
A yoke seemed so heavy to bear & reminded me of a pillory. I felt as if Christ was asking us to hold His burden, & I would skip over the scripture confused.
In speaking with my husband one day, he shared what he learned about this scripture in a devotional, & my eyes were instantly opened.
I used to think that Christ was asking us to take His yoke upon us - meaning He was asking us to bear His burden.
I now interpret this as Christ asking us to yoke ourselves to Him - accept Him into our lives so that He may help us in our journey through life.
A normal team of oxen can pull their combined body weight; however, a well-trained team of oxen can pull DOUBLE their combined body weight. This is because they have learned to work in harmony & pull in unison.
Imagine what we can accomplish if we likewise yoke ourselves with Christ.
Because Christ knows us personally, He can match His strength to ours, making it possible for us to accomplish more than we could on our own. We just need to take His yoke upon us.
We need to trust. We need to observe. We need to help pull.
It won’t be easy, but it will be easier than doing it alone 💛
